Welcome to the Arkansas Green Schools Challenge!
The U.S. Green Building Council- Arkansas Chapter (USGBC) and the Arkansas Association of Educational Administrators (AAEA) challenges your school to form a team to green your school. Our goal is to empower students and communities to be good stewards of their own environments.
Join the Challenge Each school is encouraged to form a Green Team and enter the Challenge by September 13 by completing the attached form. Green Teams which may be a single classroom, a grade level, an entire school or a student club. One entry is allowed per school.
Projects The Green Team will select a low or no cost project to begin on September 1 and conclude on March 14, 2014. The Green Team will document their energy or resource savings during the project. To assist the Green Teams, a USGBC Green Mentor will be assigned to each Green Team who will help with ideas, documentation, and curriculum and community resources. A sample list of 94 Ways to Green Your School is attached. Each Green Team will submit their energy or resource savings with either a 5 minute video or digital presentation for judging by an impartial panel by March 14.
Recognition Cash Awards and trophies will be presented to the top elementary school and secondary school. Other cash awards and trophies will be presented to elementary, middle/junior high and high schools for high achievement. The Green Schools Committee will present awards to winning teams at their schools or school board meetings between April 15 and May 15.
